Help with the download mod

Hello,

I have installed my new phpbb3 3.0.6 forum and added the download mod (Download_Mod_6_3_4.RC1) and I would like to add a group (named: Download pass)to the forum so members of that group can download files that have been uploaded to the forum and only those members can download files.
So if someone have the knowledge please help me do configure my forum.

Hello,

you must set the permissions for "View" and "Download" to "Usergroups" and after this define the groups which can view and download in the categories.
The workflow is build similar as the forum permissions.
So you must t first choose the categoriy under the module "Permissions" (or all existing ones) and select "All Users". Then change the permissions on the next page the permissions for "View" and "Download" to "Usergroups". After this choose again the categories and now select all groups which shall be able to view the categories and to download the files. And set at least the permissions to "View" and "Download" for this usergroups.

Hint:
Set the permissions for the first download category and copy the permissions with every new categorie you creates. You can find the option for this while creating a new category.

So I go first to permissions under the ACP and creat a new user role and I grate them the Can download files correct.
then I go to the download mod and give the new role the download and view correct?
is that it?

Please help if you can illustrate that in some detales like 1, 2, 3 step by step if you can help please.

I have tryed to creat:
1. Permission roles/User roles (called : Download role)
2. Users and Groups/ Groups/ manage groups/ created new group called Download Pass Group
3. Mod/Downloads/Permissions/Select one or more categories/Select usergroups then set to view and download
4. add user to group
but I think I am doing somthing not correct becuse I can't see the download icon.

Please help

Regard that you must have enough traffic and posts to download a file, if you've uploaded this not like "free".
And the "board roles" can't be used to enable downloads to users.
Just and only look in the module MOD / Downloads / Permissions and choose the (maybe previous created) usergroup which members should be able to download files in the choosen categories.
That's all.

This is what I have created.
1. I have created under Permissions a user roles and named it Download User Roles

4. Made me as a group member and made the group as my main group.

Is there is anything that I am missing or doing incorrect?

Hello,

Why?
Again: The download permissions are completely different to the board permissions and don't uses board roles!
This point is really needless.

Okay, a new usergroup to allow their members to download files from your download area.

Correct. The members of the usergroup "Download pass" will be granted to view and download from the choosen categories.

For testings, I thing, but currently not needed.

The file settings are okay, but unter point 3 you may forgots to enable "usergroups" to the permissions "view" and "download".
This you can only do, if you will at first choose the permissions for "all users"!
So please check this again.
Only when you've set the choosen permissions to "usergroups" the choosen settings under point 3 will work!!

Hint:
Select the category and check the option "View effective permissions".
Then you can see, if the permissions for "View" and "Download" are set to "Usergroups" (the first row in the permission overview page) and in the secend block the permissions for the usergroups themselves (if they exists).

Till this point you've set all right (some points more as needed, but not wrong), but regard the settings in P#4:
The displayed Download is not free, so the users must have at least X posts and/or Y Traffic to be able to download the file!
So check the general configuration of the mod to set the restrictions as you want or let the download be "free" or "free for reg. users".

So don't mix (logical) the settings:
The category settings will basically decide, which user can view, download from, upload into and moderate a category.
But the settings at the downloads themselves decides, if the choosen users (after your settings all members of the usergroup "Download pass") needs traffic or posts or just needs to be registered/logged on your forum.

So my proposal for you:
Set the download themselves to "free for reg. Users" and re-check the category permissions as I pointed to bevor.
Then the users are defined to be able to download and don't need at least any posts or traffic to download the files.
